1.1 What is a Decanter Centrifuge?

A decanter centrifuge, fully termed as "Horizontal Screw Discharge Sedimentation Centrifuge," is a mechanical device that uses high-speed rotation to generate centrifugal forces for continuous solid-liquid separation. It does not require filter cloths or screens, relying instead on the density difference between solid and liquid phases to achieve sedimentation separation. The built-in screw conveyor continuously discharges settled solids.

Decanter centrifuges are widely used in global water treatment, mining, chemical, food processing, and oil drilling industries for sludge dewatering, product clarification, particle classification, and material recovery processes.

1.2 Core Working Principle (Five-Step Process)

Step Description
① Feeding The feed suspension enters the screw distributor's internal distribution chamber through a fixed feeding tube.
② Acceleration Material is evenly distributed into the bowl cavity via the distribution port and quickly accelerated to near-bowl speed.
③ Sedimentation Under strong centrifugal force, denser solid particles adhere to the inner wall of the bowl while the liquid forms an inner ring layer.
④ Solid Discharge The screw conveyor, operating at a differential speed (slightly slower or faster than the bowl), pushes the settled sludge toward the drying zone at the conical end for discharge.
⑤ Liquid Discharge Clarified liquid overflows from the adjustable weir plate at the cylindrical end of the bowl or is discharged under pressure by a centripetal pump.

The entire process operates continuously without requiring shutdown for cleaning.
